Ok so i bought this a few months ago from aria of course and i have used it and everything was working perfectly fine i don't use it often though. So today i went to collage and put my work on my Usb stick from the collage computers after taking my Usb stick out and putting it into a different PC at my collage to transfer the data across my USB would not load and the red light would just keep flashing but my USB wont be recognized this is not a problem with the USB port as i tried it on many computers. so then i went back to the computer i originially put the USB in to get work of it and it worked strange so i tried to put my usb stick into a different computer and it stoped working again still doesent work now that i have it at home now ive had it in for like 3-4 hours now and it still hasent come up sayignm that a USB is in the USB port although the red light on the usb is still flashing

Any help / suggestions please before i return this? ( which i will prob want to get the same usb again because it is such a good usb with a cool design :)

Hi Khan,

I would suggest that if it is under warranty, you should take it to aria's return department which is on the same floor as the shop floor through the double doors
because to be honest you won't be able to fix it unless any fluke works.

I would recommend if you want to buy another 16GB memory, have a look at the
product 31235 it is very reliable and top make for memory sticks.

?only works in one computer, is that what you are saying?

Are you using the proper 'safe removal of hardware' thingy?

The returns department are not open on a Sunday so you would not be able to return the item on the Sunday you are popping in on.

They are open today till 3pm today and 5pm on a week day.

have you got the data off the drive using the one machine that you can get it recognised in ? Do that before going to return :) Once you have the data secure, re-format the drive and then try straight away in another machine without copying any data to the drive. If that works, then there must be some form of lock happening, is it encrypted?

The data which is on it i can't get of how ever i do not need it as i have it stored in many other places. When i try to put the usb in any machine it doesent recognize it doesent load up sdoesent show the USB drive doesent make a sound however there is a red light flashing on it. but there is no drive on "My computer" so i don't know what this is and i dont know how to fix it.

IF i go in on sunday is there anything they can do for me because i do not wish to return it only if it can't be fixed i only want it to be fixed so could they help fix it?

on a machine that doesn't show a drive, goto control panel, administrative tools, computer management and then click on disk management. If the device is being recognised but has a corrupted partition table it will show there with an unknown or no partition. If this is the case, allocate a new partition and then format.

You can also check in device manager to see if there is a USB device with the name of the drive there, checking in my computer only really checks that the partition table matches and the OS can see the drive.

Let us know how you get on.

(btw, aimed at XP, but items are in similiar places in vista and win7)

I am using XP btw :)

I went to Control Panel, Admin Tool, Comp Mang, Disk Man. and it does not show my Usb there only my C drive. what does this mean then?

it probably means that you have a nice little USB led light that needs replacing to add a drive :|

Does anyone use the safe removal thing? Ive never used it and never had a problem.

When mine broke, the staff were really good and replaced it there and then. Just go back and explain it to them, I'm sure they will be reasonable :)

I never use the safe removal malarkey, I've only had a problem with one usb stick and it was a no-name cheap brand arianet one (i think) from aria which they replaced.

But I always bought a decent brand since then, Kingston, Crucial etc.. and never had a problem (touch wood)

the safe removal isn't about the quality of the stick, it's about ensuring there are no files in use when you pull the drive out, if there are you can lose them completely when you plug the usb back into a new machine. As most people use USB to transfer files or backup the drive is finished with when you pull it out so it's ok, if you work direct from the USB, be sure to have all things closed and you are fine without using the safe removal.

As long as it is set to be optimised for quick removal on system properties and the light has finished flashing then no problem.
