Hello all, interested in seeing what kind of rigs some chaps have here so spec them up and tell us what you think of the hardware. This sort of thread could prove useful for those looking at trying out certain combos and not knowing what to expect. Its proved semi useful on another forum so I shall start off.

Home User rig.

Athlon x2 240 2.8ghz
2gb ddr3 1600mhz
Foxconn motherboard of some sort :D 790GX
500gb sammy F1
onboard Ati 3200.
Antec p180
OCZ 400w unit.
Lite-on Blu-ray drive.
Windows vista HP 64bit.
42" samsung 1080p TV

Conclusion. Excellent for internet + dvds/music. Very quiet, reliable and quick in windows. Can play older games such as Half life 2 at 40fps+ at 1080P so Its no slouch for the older/retro market.

Home user rig 2.

Athlon x2 245 2.9ghz (i think)
matx asus motherboard
2gb ddr2 800mhz
500gb sammy F3
onboard ati 3200
Antec 300
Antec earth watts 380w unit.
Samsung dvdrw unit.
Windows Vista HP 64bit.
23" LG 1080p monitor.

Conclusion. Same as above just slightly slower due to memory bandwidth difference and slightly slower clocked onboard GPU. Still Manages older games at 1080p but a little slower. Performs tasks in windows ever so slightly quicker due to faster HDD and cpu.

HTPC/Bench rig

E5200
Foxconn blackops
2gb ddr3 1600
500gb wD blue.
8800gtx
blu-ray drive
400w OCZ stealthstream
Antec fusion MAX remote HTPC case
win vista 64bit

Gaming rig.

I7 920 @ 4.7ghz
12gb ddr3 @ 1880mhzcl8
Asus P6T deluxe V2.
2x 80gb X25M G2 drives giving 550mbs read, 80mbs writes. Faster than my old x18Ms as they were G1 and the IOPs wernt as good.
2x Sammy F3 1TB drives none raid
1x Sammy F1 512gb drive
1x GTX285 physx @ 786/1722/2644
2x GTX295 Qsli @ 710/1546/2410
blu-ray drive
Silvertone Strider 1200w PSU.
Custom water loop over 2x tripple, 1x dual 120mm rads.
Old School Modded Lian-li PC70 case.
Windows 7 HP 64bit.
30" 2560x600 3008wpf monitor.

Conclusion. EPIC for gaming at any level with any game.
A little noisey but then there are 10x 120mm high speed yates and 6x 80mm yates in the case. Brilliant computer but hates the leccy man.

And how do they/did they perform? Trying to create an "online compare" type thing. where if enough systems get postedand people are buying X components, you can show them the thread and they can search for a similar machine to see how the owner thinks it fairs.

:D

EG, someone is planing on buying an athlon2 250 with 2gb of ddr2 1066 on an AMD 785 chipset. Point them here so they can see my home rigs 1 and 2 as they are similar and they can from that see what to expect from such a system as a basic guid line so to speak.

I usually go for slightly more performance than price, although I can't afford extreme performance.

Great for what i need

I Generally use mine for internet, converting films, streaming to my xbox playing the odd games. depends if i fancie getting my a$$ kicked online or wanna see what the fuss is about when coiler or someone else on here is going on about a game.

As my spec changes so does the performance :p

I use it for gaming and usually aim to have maximum texture details and 16xAF with 4xAA at 1680x1050. If games start to struggle with that then I look to an upgrade.

At the moment I don't intend to upgrade from my Q9550 for a long while yet. The only upgrade should be the GPU in the next year.

marsey99

mines in my sig, not sure about my profile tbh as i aint updated that in an age but.

i need a new gpu atm as i need to drop iq @19/1200 (16/10 is ok tho :D). does well in all things i have thrown at it other than that

didnt see the point in i7 as its a server setup imo and only offers small gains to a gamer.

COD MW & MW2 maxed out but NO AA or AF.

From turning on PC to playing a game about 65 seconds.

I have been looking at a media enclosure, but the latest generation of Realtek based devices all have issues. But many companies are working on Firmware updates to fix them.

When they get a little mature then the Sumvison Cyclone MKV Enclosure is on my shopping list. http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Electronics/Media+Players/Powerful+1080p+HD+Media+Player+Enclosure+?productI d=39153

It is getting very good reviews as it is before the fixes!

Specs I'm building:

CPU: Phenom II X4 965 125w BE
Board: Foxconn Destroyer 780a SLI
Case: Antec 902
PSU: Enermax Galaxy 850w
Ram: 4GB Patriot Viper EP (2x2GB)
Cooling: Xigmatek Dark Knight
Storage: Samsung F3 Spinpoint 500gb and Maxtor One 750gb XHD
GPU: ASUS GTS250 OC Edition with LCD on-the-fly manual OC panel
OS: Windows 7
Monitor: 20" Samsung Syncmaster 1600x900
Sound: Logitech X-140's and Creative Fatal1ty Headset

Save yourself quite a bit of money and get a cheaper psu, thats WAY over the top for your proposed rig, unless you plan on getting a couple of much more powerful gfx cards at a later date, otherwise nice propsed set up.

I've bought it already mate. I am considering selling it, hence me posting it in the price check area. I'm looking at a Corsair TX650w to replace it in my system as I feel that is more than enough and it should give me some headroom to upgrade. I've bought everything else listed in the set-up so far except the CPU.

Thanks for the advice. :)

my storage is handled with a HP mediavault with a couple of drives in, and removable caddies in my big machine. I've 60Gb worth of MP3s that don't get used now since Spotify. I suppose I've about 250Gb of proper stored data that is in three different places. Now a single video in sight :(

I believe that they are based on the same chipset.

Like the Sumvison one most reviews are top notch, but once you start looking around (AVfourm for instance) the issues come to light.

Luckily Sumvision UK are working with the Guys over there and hopefully they will have a bug free product very soon.

I like the Idea that it can be used as a NAS when not in use as a Media player, and can play back Blueray ISOs (contrary to the comment from Aria's staff on the product page...)

oh ok, cool might have to have a look at them a bit more as may be worth having one anyway.

Still want full mkv support on the 360 first though.

Thats the only LCD/Full HD TV I own so not a lot of point having an extender in the lounge. but the Enclosure would be good for going round mates of Familie's houses.

I use XenonMKV to convert HD MKV to play on the XBox 360 in the livingroom, works well and no need for a HTPC.

Have thought about this but not to clued up on setting a server up.

Would love a server with about 10tb, Would be enough i think...

1TB = Music
1TB = Pictures
1Tb = Downloads
7TB = Movies

Think this would be just right for a while.

Please tell me that'd be lossless otherwise you've got one hell of a record collection.
