View Full Version : Dell laptops with Trust charger, not compatable
Bought a Trust 120Watt laptop charger#38445 for an Inspiron 930 17" laptop. Box stated Dell compatability. I get a warning message stating that a non-compatable power adaptor is connected. The laptop continues to work off the mains but it refuses to charge the battery! Anyone experienced this problem before?
Sounds like a possible "you can only buy a dell adapter so we can charge you extra" (of epson printer cartridge non genuine warning fame) :knock:
ok, so how does it know?
is it a winblows driver feature, or is it Firmware?
does it charge cold?

I have seen similar messages with some Acer laptops a few years ago.
I would love to know how the laptop knows its not a genuine charger plugged into it.

I've seen this before, it halts the Laptop before boot, so it aint a Windows thing, be good if there was a workaround
i bet there is some kind of sotftware on a ram chip built into the charger, thats why there so expensive too ROFL

Wouldn't put it past the frakkers, I ordered mine off **** for a Dell XPS charger. Worked well, get it cheap from Hong Kong.
They do it to prevent cheap chargers from hong kong assploding their notebooks :p
the question is how do they do it
Its a bit backwards though - if their chargers werent so expensive in the first place, then people wouldnt have to buy the cheap ones in place of them!

It'll just be a chip or something in the PSU, which the bios detects on startup.. And then if you get a message from within windows, it'll just be through some program/service that the laptop manufacturer 'bundles' with their laptop which gets a reading from the bios..
You reckon its a quad core chip?

Perhaps they cyle the power at a certain frequency rather than constant?
That way the Bios would realise that its a constant supply and declare it a fake?
dont dell laptops also have a none "jack-pin" connection too?
You reckon its a quad core chip? :lol:Yeah - probably an Q6600 or something in there...

I'm liking that, makes sense
It's a bit ludicrous, imagine if the same were true for kettle leads.
I've found one at £6.89 :surprised:
