I am building a PC using the spec from Rick maybury's Boot Camp. I have a problem with the System panel header wiring. The case (Generic Black/Sil Midi Tower) has various cables which should be connected to the motherboard (ASRock 775i945GZ). However I cannot identify from the labelling on the cables which pins they should go to on the montherboard.

1. How do I identify the polarity?
2. Are the two cables (yellow and white) labelled \"Standby\", with a double plug, the same as PLED ?
3. What are the two (blue and white) intertwined cables - not labelled - with single plugs?

Can anyone help please?

Thanks, but I didn't get a manual with the case. I can see the the labels at the end oof the little plugs, but how do I tell the polarity, and what are the unmarked wires for?

thanks again for your help.

Hi dude can you supply any digi cam images of both the pins and the wires??

Biggest pic I can get of it is this 500x500 px

Thanks for help folks. Can't get an image, but hopefully the following will help.

The plugs on the mother board are as follows:

1st row - PLED +, PLED-,PRWBTN#, GND
2nd row - HDLED+, HDLED-,GND, RESET#

The wires are as follows:

Yellow/white labelled STANDBY - double plug
Green/white UNLABELLED - single plugs
Orange/white labelled HDDLED - double plug
Blue/white labelled RESET SW - double plug

Really appreciate your help.

UNLABELLED I would assume is PRWBTN#
RESET SW = RESET#
Polarity shouldn't matter for these so use GND

STANDBY dosn't appear to be supported by the MainBaord

HDDLED = HDLED+, HDLED- I would assume White is -ve ( but I might be wrong :(

:? you don't seem to have a Power LED or maybe thats the Unlabelled one and you don't have power

Switches don't worry about the polarity they just short the terminals out and the led ones, well if you get them the wrong way round they just wont light so turn them round you wont do any damage by getting them backwards.

Other than that as long as they are in the correct place ie hdd led on the motherboard goes to the wire marked hdd then you will be ok.

The same coloured wire on the cables is, usually, the negative.

Thanks everybody for your help. If you don't see a puff of smoke from South London, I'll let you know the outcome!!

Well, it didn't go up in a puff of smoke!!

But....I put in my Windows XP Pro disk (SP1). It formatted the hard disk and then said there was an error and stopped. When I restarted, on the boot screen it said that the SMART disk was capable, but disabled. It then goes to another screen and says \"Error, unable to load operating system\"

Is this a problem caused by my old version of XP (no SATA drivers?)

Or is it a problem with the jumpers?

The HDD is a 160gB Maxtor DMax10 SATA2.

I would appreciate the thoughts of you wise folks!
