Hi i just had one of these delivered and am having a few probs.

The hard drive is recognised and windows installs some files then nothing.

The safely remove hardware icon in the system tray can see the drive but its nowhere to be found in my computer. All i can do is shut it down.

The cd that comes with it has a format32 option and a win98 setup option - neither of which work.

Also there is something rattling about inside this drive when i lift it up which is worrying...

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated
thanks

Yep as PP suggested....if its rattling....its more than likely dead, although you will get it to detect in bios, and in some cases drive shows up in windows, sometimes dissappearing when clicked on.

Reminds me of that Monty Python Sketch with the Parrot...!

Sounds to me like it's acting like any other external harddrive.

When drives like this come out of the box the HDD is completely clean.

Normally you will have to initialise and then parition the harddrive before it will show up.

Right click \"My Computer\" -> \"Manage\" -> \"Disk Management\"

If your harddrive is showing in the bottom of the right pane, it is not faulty!

You will first have to initialise it and then partition it.

Great!!!

Thats solved it - i knew it had to be something like that but i just didnt know how to format a drive if i couldnt see it.

It still rattles which is worrying but its now showing as it should.

Thanks for that reply

Glad to hear you got it working.
Sorry it's not better explained on the website :)

As for the rattling, i'd contact our customer service department to see what sorts of warranty rights you have to open it up to have a look.
After all, these are just hard drive caddys and maybe there's a loose screw in there :)

I have been having problems with the Media Centre. I have managed to identify the disk on the disk management but when I go to format, it will not let me.

Is there a procedure that you should follow to allow you to use this peiece of equipment?
