Anyone got one of these?

Are they any good and what’s different than the old PS3?

Also do they come with the HDMI cable or do I need to purchase one?

I dont think there is any difference other then the size, But i prefer the old chunky one as the new one is really deep.

The thing is I was going to get myself a Blu-Ray player yesterday then someone said spend the little extra and get one of these in stead.
And now I’m like should I get one or not??

Now when I have looked in to it there is the Blu-Ray player I want on it and there are also a few games I can get on it that are not out for my 360 and Wii.
Metal Gear Solid 4, infamous and Gran Turismo 5 that’s out in a month or so.

I’m just umming and arring at the mo about getting one.

That was exactly my choice a while ago.. I wanted a bluray player, and the PS3 was getting better reviews than bluray players priced a lot more expensive than the console.. So I bought it and its been really worth it!

the main difference from what i read is how much less power it draws.

Well I got one last night (PS3 Slim 250GB) and got a few games with it and some Blu-Ray DVD's to. None of the games I got are 1080 so I can’t really tell the difference with them and the 360 but I did watch the new Die Hard on Blu-Ray and I'm well impressed with the difference than a normal DVD.
Last night was the first time I say and watched a Blu-Ray disk properly.

So far so good me thinks!

PS3 also does web browsery stuff like BBC iPlayer these days, I'll bet most blu-ray players don't do that.

I have to say, the latest firmware update for the PS3 has added a lot of good stuff - mainly the iPlayer app, but there's other little tweaks too. However, it can also be annoying when it won't let you play game or something until you have updated the latest firmware.. And dont EVER leave a game unplayed for too long.. Next time you log on with the game in the drive, you'll have 17months worth of updates to download.. Annoying, but not too bad on my 8mb connection, but on my parents 256k (fastest they can get where they are!! :|) connection, i've waited over 2 hours for an update to download before!

Does anyone know if the new slip PS3 can play PS1 and PS2 games?

Im sure it can play PS1 games as I downloaded on the other day from the PS store but that was a download and not the disk.

Pretty sure they can play PS1 games, but again I've only tested downloads rather than discs. They can't play PS2 games at the moment as they removed the chip that did the PS2 processing from the motherboard, so its impossible at the moment.

However, i've read that Sony may be releasing a firmware upgrade sometime to allow PS2 games to be played by emulating the chip but using the CPU to do the processing.. But I'll believe it when I see it!
