I have to say, I was expecting the AMD cpu not to perform as well as it did!

It's proved why I am going to stay with my phenom, especially game results, I don't need benchmark epeen.

Yes I'm looking to get a AMD Phenom II because the gaming results.

Looks like AMD have uped the game with a cheap Athlon Quad (860) which competes with the Q8xx range for about £80

Yes I'm looking to get a AMD Phenom II because of the gaming results. Although the i5 750 at £150 seems good value, I dont understand the price point of the i5 860 looking at its performance.

1366 i7 920 will eventually be discontinued leaving i5 860 the only i7 processor priced around £200.

But then the 6 Core 12 threaded i7 (1366) chips come out sometime after xmas for X58.

Damn i get lost in all this.

So the i7 is going already!? (1366)

What happened to all the £800 ones?

only the "low end" 1366, 920 / 950 too iirc.

The 920 1366 is that "low end" Intel are having to discontinue it so it doesn't hurt their i5 sales! LOL

Pretty much yep, not i5 though, all 1156 ;)

For something a little different today we are taking four quad-core series and comparing how they performanceDo these guys not have spell checkers or any sense of grammer? :fail

And anyway, this article just shows that the i7 920 just rapes everything else.

But i keep hearing people say get one while you can, what CPU's are they gonna be releasing in the future on socket 1377's, and what are they gonna be priced like?

I wanna make sure i don't buy a 920 and then two weeks later they release a 920 rapist and i get really hacked off :P

"comparing how they performance" AHhahahahaha FAIL! :ss

Monkey nothing is going to pillage the 920 for a long time, its a monster.

Such a monster intel are making it enterprise class!

If intel decided there will never be any more 1366 CPU's ever released again, you could buy the 920 in the knowledge its that good it wouldn't matter! :clap

But surely its not gonna be a great buy if i cant upgrade it in the future unless i buy a new board and anything else i need

mac124
22-09-09, 19:02
1366 will be around for a while yet, as to whether you can afford to upgrade in the future is another matter what with it becoming (seemingly) out of the price range for mere mortals if / when they discontinue "low end" 1366 chips such as the 920 / 950, which seems to be the way they are going.

Monkey
22-09-09, 19:07
i thought they were the high end cpu's?

mac124
22-09-09, 19:11
920 / 950 as in "low end" for 1366 ;)

Monkey
23-09-09, 01:22
So if there low end, why dont i get a "high end" one, as in a...?

Aaron

Check out the prices and it should give you a good idea of why..

Ahh i see... i thought that may have been it :P

mac124

Yup which is why when (if?) intel do away with them then 1366 will become purely an elite market and as such out of reach of most. Especially when the 6/8 core cpus come out. I personally think it may have been a plan of theirs, Intel, to bring out these cheaper chips first to get poeple on the band wagon then release the cheaper 1156 stuff so the 1366 guys had no choice but to buy into the more expensive gear or swap platforms if / when they want to upgrade.
