I look at all the posts here often but this is the first problem I don't have enough time to sort out myself !!!! I'm hoping to pick your wonderful brains!

Replaced 3500 athlon xp with 4600x2 on a kn8Ultra board, bios sees cpu correctly, loaded windows first time, no problems, went through new drivers install for cpu now it won't boot past bios!!!! do I really have to reinstall windows ??? i reinstalled windows on spare drive and appears to work ok...is reinstall the only option to get the cpu running ???

thanks in advance!

Jase

done all the bits you suggested, underclocked as well, works fine after reinstall on spare sata drive, bios settings played with for last hour, temps idling at 31c, no good in safe mode, just boots past post screen then resets.

thx for reply.

just backing up old files so I can try repair windows or reinstall...any quick ideas?..lol

When I said driver I actually meant that windows 'recognised' that the processor had changed, restarted the pc then from then on the problem hit, I thought it was strange that I had a problem at all after that, maybe windows just felt it needed a clean install and I was being lazy!! fresh install always feels good after  . PC up and running ..now all I gotta do is re-install all the progs that I wiped!!..

thanks for the help, appreciate the fast response, made me feel good that I had already tried the ideas you suggested!!! atleast I didnt feel I was wasting your time!!

Many thanks
