View Full Version : overclock
ok so i have a intel celeron d 3.33ghz processor
can i overclock it if so how far??

Depends on the motherboard.
Not all motherboards allow overclocking.
What are you full system specs?
Wonderlust is right mate,
Would be good to know what Motherboard and RAM you using and most importantly what cooler?
cpu is Intel Celeron D 3333ghz (25x133)
mobo is a msi p4m900m2 http://uk.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1123&maincat_no=1#
2gb ram which is max it can hold
cooler is Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO (Socket LGA775) purchased yesterday arrives within 24 hours http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Fans%2C+Heatsinks%2C+Coolers/CPU+Coolers/Arctic+Cooling+Freezer+7+PRO+%28Socket+LGA775%29+? productId=20729
apparently my mobo can support intel core 2 duo but im unsure this is my only pc i have ever upgraded due to online gaming

ok the board does support limited overclocking....
But with a Via chipset and a P4 based chip I wouldn't expect too much of an overclock.
would u know if board can support core 2 duo..
and what would u say is much of an overclock and how do i do it safely
From the motherboard page you linked to:
• Supports Socket 775 for Intel® P4 3xx/ 5xx/ 6xx/ Pentium D, Celeron D, Core 2 Duo processors.
• Supports FSB 1066/800/533MHz.

I believe thats your board...

thats my board
msi seem to think i need to contact medion to find out if its core 2 duo compatable but i feel msi made it they should know

Ah MSI (like other manufacturers) make special edition boards for brands like Medion.
You will have to contact Medion, but it would probably work out a little easier to but a better board and chip together.
If you are sticking with Intel get a board with an Intel chipset as they tend to overclock better. (see my thread with my P35 intel based board and a Pentium dual Core E6300 (2.8Ghz stock) at 3.8Ghz.

What graphics card do you have? A 3.33GHz Celeron D, will provide alot of punch!

Who said he wanted to game with it?

Are you joking?

Even so, a 2 GHz core 2 duo would be faster. He's assuming clockspeed = bandwidth = speed
i have a asus hd3450 512mb (went cheap for 1st graphics card) but when i game (battlefield 2 with aix2 mod) i have to put settings on low due to over heating cpu but i have installed my new arctic freezer 7 pro today so hopefully it will drop temp as its constantly 76-84c
so with new cooler i was wondering what ghz i could safely overclock to if its worth doing

Somebody get some benchmarks to prove this...nice guy wrong ;)

hi there my current fan and heat snyc isnt enough to keep my tower cool for gaming so i need advice i need compatible fans and heatsnyc for this mother board
MSI (Micro Star) MS-7255 (P4M900M-L) Motherboard
i need great cooling and at best price
He did
The "saftey" factor of the overclock is primarily based on temperature at full load, now never having owned a celeron i don't know what the recommended safe temperature is but i am sure one of the other guys could let you know.

It's P4 archicture so they naturally run hot.
With the fact its an OEM board I would suggest if it can overclock (which I very much doubt) it will be minimal.
ok cool never mind maybe just being a bit cooler with new cooling will improve gameplay

Umm I don't think so...not unless you go N2
lol liquid nitrogen.
Will.....stop it ;)
I think he means liquid nitrogen.
But he forgot the L in LN2. WILL FAIL!
see im a total pc noob but know a few bits as my mates all have turbo charged pc's
if the freezer pro gets it running cooler you could overclock it.
it(celly) will run on a low fsb and your board supports other cpu with much higher fsb so you do have some wiggle room there but imo the first thing that would stop you will be your ram. as the board is via based it will have next to no options so you will most likley have to run the fsb/ram linked and as you up the fsb so follows the ram.

don't forget it's an oem boxshifter bios so I would doubt if it has any bios overclocking options at all
it should have the most basic of options like cpu freq, vcore and basic ram timings but i would be shocked if it had anything more too.
where would i find out if it has overclocking options??

If it has any in the bios.
There is a remote chance that it may have FSB jumpers some MSI models do have( P35 neo2-Fr and P45 Platinum to name two)

I do A level chemistry and got an A....don't tell me I fail! There is no element LN2 -_- FAIL!!! :thumbsdn: The Ar (atomic weight) of Nitrogen is 14...yes i know it off by heart haha and has 7 electrons...7 protons and 7 neutrons...never tell me I fail at chemistry...I AM A CHEMISTRY MASTER!!1!!!

Nobody said it was an element though did they?
N2 = what?
LN2, L represents liquid, n is the symbol for nitrogen, 2 as it's a diatomic element.
FAIL.

 you showing you clearly didn't pay attention at School...if your really gonna put in state symbols, it would be...
N2(l) + o2(g) ---> 2NO(g) :mrgreen::thumbsup:

I do not pretend to know alot about Chemistry but i know that Liquid Nitrogen is LN2, so stop trying to act all clever with some guy who doesn't know much about PCs.
Once again you FAIL!
You are the Grandmaster of FAILING and thats about it.
Will stop being so difficult, LN2 is a abbreviation, not a element. LN2 is like any old abbreviation. if you were being chemistry pedantic it would be:
N2(l)...
