View Full Version : Grrrr Hate Vista
Omg i so hate Vista and dont even know why i got this laptop with Vista on. Never used Vista EVER in my life as im an XP fan. Right so using my laptop for really the first proper time, downloading some EXE files and when you get the window saying Run, Save or Cancel i click Save and then nothing happens, the windows closes, wtf?
Also when i click Run it will download the program and then when its finished the window will close even though the box is unticked so it doesnt close and nothing happens.
wtf but grrrr i hate vista !
Any help for a Vista noob?
If you save it, it goes to my downloads.... Its not vista, its internet explorer, nooob. Firefox will see you right./

Ahhh never use IE always use Firefox :D
God vista SUCKS *** !!!!!
You obviously are doing something wrong, or have a dodgy firefox install.

Firefox when downloading can often be downloaded in the status bar, bottom right corner. While downloading go to
Tools > Downloads see if it is there.
If it is you can go to Tools > Options > Main Tab > tick: Show downloads window
I would also double check, as you said when you click save the downloader closes, under the checkbox: Show downloads window there is one called Close when downloads are finished make sure that is unticked.
This will pop up the downloader on firefox. Double check the destination inside the downloading area on that tab, double check if, in fact, it is going to the intended destination :).

i don't hate it.....
Just prefer Xp and 7
I cant wait to get W7 though, as soon as i do i will sell my copy of Vista on the well known auction site

My girlfiend is a primary school teacher and she has a class full of kids with all these made up disorders.
One kid has aspergus/yuppie flu, where he gets really lethergic and can't focus, so he gets to go and watc cartoons for 1/2 an hour, every 1/2 an hour.
If they didn't tell the kid what they thought he had then he/she would be fine, two parents proved this at her school by not telling thier son he was mildy autistic, he acts fine, whereas others are just naughty little buggers.

I understand that there are real people with real problems outthere but also alot of coasters, my neighbour claims to have been diagnosed with ADD as he can't hold down a job, nevermind that hes always out on the pop.

ok my view and I don't care how controversial.
When I was a kid parents were allowed to smack children. But the nannny state dictates that this is not a good thing (never did me any harm...)
So now instead of smacking naughty children they are declaired ADHD and drugged!
so the nanny state say smacking a child is not allowed but drugging them is?!?

I know a couple with a kid that is on Ritalin (iirc) and all he needs at time is some patience by his parents, some attention and, in the past, a smack when required.
Smacking became pretty ineffective against me and my brother. That's when it escalated to my mum taking away the pc kettle lead as punishment. I'd rather have been grounded for a week than have no pc for a week.
I think i was smacked all of 5 times.
My dad made them count, i mean i seriously could not sit down for the rest of that day, so then if i angered my parents enough to warrant a smack, all my dad would do is raise his hand and chase me, after me running screaming for 2 or 3 minutes he would normally let me go, but sometimes he would chase and catch then smack me, so everytime i had to run for me life.
When i have kids, if they warrant a smack i shall smack them, none of this naughty step/spot crap that my older sis uses, her 3 year old is soooooo rude.
Vista deserves a smack.
Although, I personally don't mind it. Never had any trouble with it.
And when/if I have kids, smacking will be a punishment. The nanny state is why all the prisons are full, and it never did me any harm.
Also I have hydrocephalus. Despite it affecting the brain, I was very clever at school, in the top groups for most subjects, but I still used it to my advantage. Only in PE though. Was fine in the other subjects.

Concur - I used to get a smack when I was young if I was bad.. It didnt happen that often though. But on of the main things that my parents always made a point of doing, was dishing out the concequence (a smack), but then ALWAYS made the point of explaining why. And thats what I think a lot of people are missing about it. Randomly smacking a kid out of pure frustration is definitely wrong, and I think that points more towards bad parenting than a bad punishment. But smacking a kid when they have genuinely chosen to do something wrong isn't a bad thing, as long as the kid understands why.
Win7 is meant to be good but still might wait for the 1st service pack because there will be issues as always.
I'm yet to find any with the Release Candidate.
Although many say this is just a Vista service pack :)

Dunno cos I'm at work, but I know that W7 pretends to be a version of Vista for compatibility.
On mine it used to say Vista, for the reason Nifty said.. But I think that was because W7 wasn't an official product then..

Yeah i'm aware its only a shiny update for Vista, thats why i haven't bothered buying it, i still have my Vista HP 64 bit ready to go back on when i upgrade my motherboard at the end of the month.

Yeah it's compatibility. If it reported itself as Windows 7.0 then a lot of programmes and drivers would refuse to install due to hard coded checks, despite the fact that they would work in Vista which is what W7 is really.

I thought XP was 5.1, Windows 2000 was 5.0 (follow up from NT4 numbering system)...
The way I see it, XP was an upgrade on 2k, thus it was numbered 5.1, just like W7 is an upgrade on Vista.

But, windows 7 is build 7100 ish, while vista is build 6xxx something.
But the version is still 6
But its not, its a different build.
