Can I start a Core i7 920 club and claim to be the number 1 i7 member ?

Is anyone else reading this daft enough to spend out on an i7 ?

Any tips on settings for that extreme overclock over 4Ghz would be much appreciated.

Yes you can start a Club
No I'm not daft enough
No tips sorry

hmm membership isn't going well. Maybe I should amend it to a DDR3 club, that would be marginally more popular.

You hit 3.6ghz right? I bet I could beat that, I've hardly even tried pushing it to the limit, i just couldn't be bothered to go over 3.5ghz

You might have the highest 24/7 overclock of the 720's but NOT of the AM3's last time i checked 3.8 was higher than 3.7 ;) i could go a bit higher bet temps / voltages were unacceptable.

Proof? I want a screeny of a vantage run at least with something showing cpu speed to prove some kind of stability at 4ghz. Preferably of prime / similar running for a little while.

If the performance previews on the i5 are true the i5 seems like it should be a pretty good platform. Not much performance difference to the i7 and a lot more affordable hopefully.

Performance preview (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/08/25/intel_core_i5_performance_preview)

Am I right in thinking that a corei5 is a corei7 with no hyperthreading and can't triple channel DDR3? Oh and slower clock speed.

wonderlust
29-08-09, 22:25
Clock speeds may well be higher and the turbo modes are said to be superior.

There will also be some low end I7 chips on socket 1156 too.

Hyperthreading will be available in some I5 chips

Will
29-08-09, 22:35
What? Weird. It'll be interesting to see what Intel do to market the Corei7 against the Corei5 i.e why would you buy the i7 over the i5 unless the pricing were very similar.

Nice to see they'll be some lower TDP chips around soon...130W is too much for a CPU I think :)

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/08/27/review_cpu_intel_core_i7_870/page2.html

Why can't Intel get on with these 32nm chips already ;)

750 i5 chip is £160, 920 1366 i7 is £200 (plus extra for triple channel memory), 860 i7 (i5 pinout) is £225 iirc.

I'll tell you what they'll do Shed. They'll discontinue the i7 920.

Which is what they are doing.

i love amd tbh, they are the ones pushing the envelope and being inovetive but intel just throw money at it and copy amd's stuff just enough to get away without getting sued. the thing of it is they have the higher performance and the right price so that why my machine has evil inside.

im still hoping bulldozer can swap that around tho.

Im using a p6TD deluxe.

i had the classified 759 but it blew... Had it RMA'd and got a 760 returned to me + a credit note for the remaining balance. The 760 was awful for somereason.. didnt like anything I did and wouldnt puch beyond 204fsb.

I can get 236 on the asus board so its a corker in my eyes,

I think I've pretty much given up on PC's. I've had the same issue on 3 builds. Windows hangs at the boot screen. Each time I've had to do a clean install. Any of you i7 owners had this, just wondering if you high end enthusiasts experience issues too.

It was rather chocking to me too! Each gpu block was £137. Each one of my 2 rads were £105. My cpu block was £55. My full cover mobo block (that I have just paid for) was 125 Euros (£100 ish). And then we have tubing, kink coils, a MCP355 pump and another to be ordered (hence the £50 ish to spend) + compression fittings and other bits totaling around £40. And then theres 10x yates at £4.25 each :P
