View Full Version : Best CPU cooler
What cooler should I get for my Phenom II x3 720 I would basically looking to max it 3.6GHz+ really. I would like the cheapest CPU cooler possible, but obviously has to perform nearly aswell as a thermalright ultra extreme 120 :)
Doesn't have to be from Aria :D as they have a limited supply of CPU coolers!
Titan Fenrir, Scythe Mugen 2, Xigmatek Thors Hammer, Thermolab Baram (made by Theramlright)
Cheapos that are quite good,
Gelid Silent Spirit, OCZ Gladiator Max.
Xigmatek 1284 virtually as good as true.
cooling like gpu you do get what you pay for :(

would get my vote from aria as they dont sell mine any more but my thread (http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11646) shows what are the best aircollers around atm, just because they are bolted to a i7 cpu doesnt mean they wont bolt to amd ones just as well.
I think that's link FAIL :)
That CPU cooler is poor for quad cores.
Which when you've for a 95W TDP your looking for a quad core cooler :)
I think that's link FAIL :)
Which link? The cooler or the Bittech review?
The review is a really good one, although the Titan Fenrir isn't on there.
Xigmatek 1284 £29
Titan £34
Scythe Mugen 2 £37
Average prices from 3 retailers, all can beat a TRUE.
El wayneo brilliant my friend :D I'll get the Scythe Mugen 2 :thumbsup::mrgreen:
rep+
Benchmark?
I've only seen the Scythe beating the TRUE :)

Nothing is better if you refuse to listen to advice about tweaking your system rather than just saying I HAVE BANDWIDTH

Nearly there peter, my finger was hovering above the rep+ button :coffee:
The scythe has a fair bit more airflow than the xigmatek!
Titan beats them both in terms of pure cooling according to this: http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2383&page=5
Not a huge margin though, and for £5 more than the xigmatech you only get a couple of degrees. The scythe is a long way behind them but I guess it's fan is slower and quieter?
For pure bang VS buck at £10 without a doubt the Freezer 7

CONCLUSIONS AND AFTERTHOUGHTS

http://www.tweaknews.net/ads/adview.php?what=zone:20&n=aa8bdfb7 (http://www.tweaknews.net/ads/adclick.php?n=aa8bdfb7) The freezer 7 Pro from Arctic Cooling has what it takes. Up against a couple of high-performance (http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/arctic_cooling_freezer_7_pro_processor_cooler/index5.php#) coolers that were newer, bigger and much more expensive, the little Freezer 7 Pro held its own. Some consumers might overlook the Freezer as being dated and no longer competitive. That would be a big mistake. This kind of performance at a pricepoint of significantly less than $40 US is extremely good value. Oh, and then there's the 6-year warranty. There aren't any blingy lights or fancy covers here, just good old-fashioned quality and value. What more do you really need?
Pros:
- Great cooling
- Great quality
- Excellent value
- Easy installation
- Quiet PWM fan
- Pre-applied TIM
- 6-year warranty
Cons:
- Doesn't install itself

The freezer's are ok until you start going for a high overclock, mine did well up to 3.2/3.4 then it just couldn't hack it any more. I now run comfortably at 3.6 with a tuniq (not the greatest but it looks cool ;) )
TRUE in push pull is meant to be about as good as it gets, I have read about those Prolimatech megahalems (spelling) & they seem to be as good or slightly better, again in push pull format.
Shame a AC7 doesn't work with AM3 socket CPUs :chairfall::mrgreen:
I've just ordered my Scythe Mugen 2 and a nice blue Akasa 120mm case fan! I sense something in the air...

WOW fitting a new CPU cooler looks complicated, you have to dismantle part of the motherboard! :thumbsdn:

Takings motherboards apart to install coolers? That seems worrying.
Just the backplate, so they can screw onto it.
