Im havein some problems with my memory. i bought a new mother board (MSI K9N PlatinumnForce 570 Socket AM2) and new memory (OCZ 1GB DDR2 PC2-5400/ 667MHz/).
I set the computer up and was installing windows when the pc crashed. i tryed this a few more times and the same thing happpened again. i sent the memory off to be checked it see if it was faulity and the memory was returned with a clean bill of health. since the memory isnt faulity, the MSI site says that the mother:

* Supports Dual DDR II 533/667/800,
* 4 DDRII DIMMs (240pin / 1.8V),
* Supports a maximum memory size up to 8GB.

so i was wondering if any one can help me by telling me if my memory is totally compatable with my mother board or is my motherboard just faulity????
any help will b very helpful thanks

You're going to have to pray that a BIOS update fixes that. Apparently, OCZ have a tendency to not stick to JEDEC specs, for example, higher voltages and tighter timings etc. I don't know why the problems occur though. There's performance RAM for a reason...

EDIT: Check the exact specs of your RAM and note it down. It could be worth increasing the memory voltage in the BIOS.

I don't know if this is possible, but did you try booting without any RAM installed? If that didn't work you'll have to buy some more :x

I'd say, get 256MB of Corsair Value RAM rated at 533/667, or see if a friend has some memory you could borrow.

The way I see it, you have a couple of choices:

1. Try and locate someone who has some RAM you could borrow (533/677. You'll have to check if 533 is more compatible or not than 667)

2. Buy some cheap branded memory, ****** has a 533 Kingston stick for £20, code 64186.

3. Get another 1GB stick of Corsair/667 and keep it running with the OCZ stick, or sell one of them after the BIOS upgrade.

Maybe someone else could shed a bit of light on this...

When you say won't \"boot up\"

how far does it get?

from your initial post I get the impression that it is passing POST, but failing when windows is installing

As a BIOS update is in DOS , it will only use the first 640K of memory , so it should work

it gets a gd bit into the installion. the system would boot for the windows disk and would start to copy the files for the disk to run window, then it would crash. i doesnt always crash at the same point in the installion, sometime it would even get as far as the window screen comin up.

Your computer POST's fine by the sounds of things which means you'll be able to update to the latest BIOS revision (which you should do regardless) but it doesn't sound like a memory problem to me. More like a missing driver? You sure you aren't missing a SATA driver or something or trying to install on a RAID array?
