i have this laptop for a year and a half with 1 gb of ram.

my laptop is toshiba L40-15C
vista basic 32-bit

my questions are:

can my laptop handle 3gb of memory with vista basic 32 bit?
and
how can i downgrade it to XP?

according to info from one site the L40 takes a Max of 2GB of ram. (has two slots and takes 2x1GB)

3GB is also a bad idea for DDR2, you might aswell be using ye olde DDR RAM :p

True if your using 1GB and 2GB because you lose dual-channel mode. But when your using 2GB and 2GB but Windows is reassigning some addresses to your GPU or something then it should be running in dual-channel mode. I think...
