Just wondering if it's possible to reduce the speed a dvd drive reads at as my current one makes absolutely tons of noise when reading, even making annoying whistling noises at times. I seem to recall seeing a program somewhere at some point that could do this but can't remember for the life of me where so any help would be awesome as it's really annoying atm.

Not a solution, but try reducing the bufferers or increasing if none specified.

Add some scratches to the dvd. Actually don't do this.

Easy for Recording.....put for general reading I seem to remember you had to flash a custom Firmware....If I remember AVForums used to have all that info

I have to ask, what are you using it for that its often enough to bother you?

let us know if you find a solution,

mine sounds quite loud, and I had invested fair bit in pc silence

thinking around the problem... you could either mount it in another system and access remotely, or get a usb caddy as I did with mine, and tuck it under the desk wrapped in a jumper :D

Use ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) to make an image of the disk (you can specify read speed) to read from hdd? With dvd drives being so cheap though, why not just get a new one?

Nero has a tool in it somewhere drivespeed drivetools something. Not used nero since v7 but they seem to have just added and added instead of taken away so it will be in it somewhere.

mine can make a racket, but use it so infrequently its not an issue.

Seems like drivespeed might've done the trick, not noticed any whistling from it which was the main issue.
