View Full Version : Advice needed on system overclock and more RAM
I have a Gladiator based system with 8GB RAM and an Aria set overclock of 4.30Ghz. Running nice and smooth.
My daughter just one a Sky competition for a Crucial SSD plus a extra 16GB RAM.
Being a noob to overclocked systems my question is as follows.
Will adding additional RAM to the system stop the overclock working?

It may make it more unstable, depending on how many sticks of RAM you add (using 4 sticks will be more unstable than using 2, for example) - add the additional RAM, then run something like Prime95 to see if you get a bluescreen. If you do, it's unstable and you need more volts for the CPU :)
Of course, making modifications may void the warranty you have with the system, I'm not too sure on that!
the ssd should make no difference once you get windows installed, more ram might but it depends on many things such as size of sticks, rated speeds/latency/voltage and unless you know what they are on your current ones and the new sticks it just guess work.
to ease any issues i would swap out your current ram and replace it with all 16gb of the new stuff, this should cause less issues but you may need to adjust the bios options for the new ram to keep the oc.
Thanks for the quick response guys.
