View Full Version : 1U Rackmount Server Case.
Hello. I can't imagine this being an overly popular option, but I'm desperate for a cheap local source of 1U Rackmount cases like these:
http://www.xcase.co.uk/acatalog/Queenserver_1U_Short_RM_140S.html
I build bespoke firewalls for our customers using the above, and it'd be a great bonus if I could buy them together with all the other hardware from one place (hint, hint.... Aria?)
Regards,
Austin.
I'll second that actually.
We hear you...

Best bang for the buck we think - Due to land ready for purchase over the weekend...
Will look at some more solutions, and some cooling as we only stock 939/754 1u cooling atm, but its cheap ;)

Hi Im toying with the idea of racking a couple of machines, to cut down the space my machines occupy, Just wondering why rack cases are roughly 3 times more expensive than a tower that uses roughly 3 times the materials to produce...Its barmy in my op.....or has the industry just got mass server owners over a barrel so to speak?
Someone mentioned modding a wheelie bin, might not be a bad Idea given the rack case prices...lol
Greetz Mighty...
Great job, Aria.
I'm just about to place an order for two, with associated hardware - customer support like this deserves my custom!
As I understand it, the higher price associated with rackmount cases is due to (a) a generally higher quality of construction, as demanded by the market. and (b) Economies of scale - a million tower ATX chassis being turned out in the Far East each month as the market exists to consume them. Relatively few 19\" rackmount equivalents being produced in the same period as the market isn't there.
Youre right austin - goes for all parts of the item too, think of the PSU for example, small form factor, not so many made :(
Not only that.. The manufacturers will know consumers of server hardware tend to have a few more pennies at their disposal (Or at least a higher willingness to spend it  ) so just like any industry, there will be a degree of 'making money where you can' kind of attitude.
That said... I managed to find one of the best priced 1U chassis, by one of the most highly accredited server hardware manufacturers for a cracking price. Hope they serve you well austin!
Picked one up the other day - this is an *awesome* chassis - easily the nicest 1U that I've worked with.
A few pointers, though, and if I may be so cheeky a few more requests off the back of these chassis.
First of all the PSU supports the newest ATX2.0 specification (great if you want a PCI-E mobo in it for some reason) but the motherboards I'm presently fitting to firewalls use the older 20-pin headers. So it'd be great if you could get hold of a bunch of these:
24 pin to 20 pin ATX convertors (http://www.cms-computers.co.uk/product_detail.asp?stype=7&productcode=2414-1135&group=CABPOW&pgroup=CAB&brand=ZOOST)
Also, the power supply lead is very short, necessitating an extension for the socket 754 motherboards I've been using. So....
Any chance you could stock these? (http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=1&criteria=atx%20extender&ModuleNo=46755&doy=16m5)
And finally (gulp) the case doesn't ship with a PCI riser. This is fair enough as it'd be hard to get an exact one to match the motherboard. So I've used a flexible PCI riser. You stocked them in the past, any chance you could stock them again?
Something like this.... (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5497.html)[/url]
You still don't have any rackmount cases :( Please get some in stock soon!

Thank you, people :D
Any update on the 1U situation?
Thats what I thought. I wondered why it was so much more on origin, must just like ripping ppl off lol.I got it now cheers Zaim for letting everyone know
Beat me to it Bluenose, I love mine looks so nice and its cable management is second to none. With the extra money you save with it being so cheap you can spend on soundproofing (even though its already quiet) and good fans, maybe some lights ^^
Lol wth? dont worry im not crazy speaking to myself the site must have got confused and posted on this page unstead of the ones I actually posted on.. wierd
Sheilding has nothing to do with cat 6 or cat 5 regulations, cat 5e and cat 6e are though. The difference between cat 5 an cat 6 isnt just the amount of mb's can pass through its the frequency of the data signal that is more in cat 6, were starting to use cat 6 bandwidth and frequency now , but allot of people will still be fine with cat5 for a good while. Im an electrician so kind of know lol. Theres no point in getting fibre optic for home connections atall.
